Pros and cons of Optiscan QR Code Reader app for iPhone and iPad

Optiscan QR Code Reader app good for

I like it. It works fine, wish you could embed graphic into email. Took snapshot of 1 and then sent the graphic via email. Would be even nicer if one could wirelessly copy onto desktop.
Ive tried a number of the free ones thus far, including NeoReader which seems to be fairly well reviewed. NeoReader seems to read the codes fine, but it doesnt support contact data. So I decided to try Optiscan which was well reviewed. BOOM. WTH? With every other reader Ive had to juggle the camera to focus proper, and then wiggle hands to get the shot right. Optiscan whirls up the camera and in 1 or 2 seconds it just BOOM. And gives you the readout. One click. AWESOME.
It is great to generate my own QR codes on the iPhone without worrying privacy and hidden issues in web apps. Its ease of use and clear interface is what I appreciate. You can also store QR codes youve taken with the camera in camera roll and read them later with a single swipe. Well worth the money. And the customer support is fantastic.
Does what it says. Works well with my 3G. Very fast; much more so than some free ones I tried. Glad I paid for this one. One suggestion: Id like to be able to rename saved codes so I know what they are, rather than just seeing the code in a list of codes.
Works well on newspapers and magazines but have not tried on posters and big items. Works MUCH better than free scanners. Turn it on, touch the screen and it works first time without much adjustment. Most of the time it scans even before you think it is lined up. Im happy!
Handles everything I throw at it. Great interface for creating VCF info from contacts.

Some bad moments

Generally a good app, but for the very high price of $1.99 I would like to see better touches. No scan / frame lines while scanning, app does no show if its focusing. A better beep sound will be nice. Cannot save QR code directly to photo library. Editing of created QR codes will be welcome. A short footnote on creating QR for SMS, telephone number, URL, web addy, vCard and me cards will be handy.
Takes info from contacts list. There is no way to edit that, it is set in stone so far as ur card goes. Puts in fields you dont want because switches dont work properly. Cant email QR. If u dont care whats on ur vcard or mecard it works great.
I purchased the app while attending a conference and wanted to use it to scan name badges. The scanning codes looked similar to those shown on this apps info page in iTunes so I thought Id give it a try. I was unable make it read the codes as desired. However, the application is configured to open a dialog window in the event of an error so that you can give permission for a "trouble ticket" to be transmitted to the publisher. I allowed it to send the exception message and received an email from the publisher about a day later indicating that the code I was scanning was not a type that could be read by the app. Thumbs up for the support feature within the app and for the publisher response to the support notification via email. Thumbs down for the publisher who didnt offer a courtesy refund after seeing that the software was useless for me. :( The moral? Learn your bar codes before buying scanner apps.
Just downloaded Optiscan and tried to read the same codes my husband just read with FREE barcodescanner for his droid. His scanned every code and optiscan couldnt read a single one. Why did I pay for this????
Cant make QR code of geo location, only of contacts, web url, and text. It can decode from photo album QR codes made by other apps, but it wont save its own created QR codes to photo album, so you cant really see if the code that was created has the info you wanted. Its very limited in features. I bought it on sale for $.99 and I really feel sorry for those who paid $1.99 for this crappy app.
Purchased it for the store and it does not work well with the IPhone. Did not want to use email. Could have done that with outlook!
